2002 Tekno Devils FLL Team

Home
Our logo for the Tekno Devils.
We are a veteran team of 5, 6, and 7th graders. We meet twice a week for two hours at a time. Our goal is to win the Director’s Award at a state competition.
Our research topic is rioting and the city is London. We will present with a skit.
This is the first draft of the robot. It is rather shy, so we had to hide its identity! It has two touch sensor bumpers, the Mars Rover wheels, a rotation sensor, a light sensor for line following, and another light sensor as a rotation sensor.
We have sequenced the missions. The software group is busy writing a subroutine libary. So far they have routines to:
  • Forward and backwards forever
  • Forward and backwards N ticks
  • Forward and backwards till black line
  • Forward and backwards till bumper hit
  • Follow right and left edge of black line agressively
  • Follow right and left edge of black line meekly
  • Left and right turns forever
  • Left and right pivots forever
  • Left and right turns for N ticks
  • Left and right pivots for N ticks
  • Left and right 90 degree turns
  • Left and right 90 degree pivots
  • Raise and lower the actuater N ticks
  • Set up program
2002 Season Results

On December 7th, 2002 we competed at the East Massachusettes State Tournament in Quincy.

We had a very strange day. The robot that had been working well up to a week before failed to perform at all. Of our first three runs, we never broke 100 points. At our research presentation, one of our key actors suffered a gushing nose bleed and performed with a tissue in her nose, pinching the nose bridge, and with her head thrown back! We did not make the sweet sixteen.

We still had hopes for the Tech Interview or the Software awards. These both went to other teams. The team was pretty bummed then started to feel better when I won the Adult Mentor award. Certainly a big shock. But what came as a bigger shock was to win the Director's Award! We must have done well enough in all the other catagories to compensate for our dismal performance score.

"It ain't over till the fat lady sings!"

On February 15, 2003 we competed at the Nashua Local FLL Tournament.

The team had a very nice day. At the end of the prelimanry three rounds they where the leaders by a fair margin. But as has been our luck this year, we lost our first round in the semi finals.

But all was not in vain, the team took home three trophies. These were the Robust Design, TeamSpirit, and the Director's Award. A great way to end a great year. Next year we are on to Mars!

2) Return red house to base.
3) Deliver building materials.
4) Deliver food loops to market
5a) Deliver houses.
5b) Close bridge

Note: We sequenced a/b missions with a container since an action button was make illegal.
