We are a veteran team of 5, 6, and 7th graders. We meet twice a week for two hours at a time. Our goal is to win the Director’s Award at a state competition. |
| Our research topic is rioting and the city is London. We will present with a skit. | |

This is the first draft of the robot. It is rather shy, so we had to hide its identity! It has two touch sensor bumpers, the Mars Rover wheels, a rotation sensor, a light sensor for line following, and another light sensor as a rotation sensor. |
We have sequenced the missions. The software group is busy writing a subroutine

On December 7th, 2002 we competed at the East Massachusettes State Tournament in Quincy. We had a very strange day. The robot that had been working well up to a week before failed to perform at all. Of our first three runs, we never broke 100 points. At our research presentation, one of our key actors suffered a gushing nose bleed and performed with a tissue in her nose, pinching the nose bridge, and with her head thrown back! We did not make the sweet sixteen. We still had hopes for the Tech Interview or the Software awards. These both went to other teams. The team was pretty bummed then started to feel better when I won the Adult Mentor award. Certainly a big shock. But what came as a bigger shock was to win the Director's Award! We must have done well enough in all the other catagories to compensate for our dismal performance score. On February 15, 2003 we competed at the Nashua Local FLL Tournament. The team had a very nice day. At the end of the prelimanry three rounds they where the leaders by a fair margin. But as has been our luck this year, we lost our first round in the semi finals. But all was not in vain, the team took home three trophies. These were the Robust Design, TeamSpirit, and the Director's Award. A great way to end a great year. Next year we are on to Mars! |
