Unofficial FLL FAQ06-c - 2006 Rule changes

Q1.1) What rules have changed since 2005 (Ocean Odyssey)?

A) In an effort to better the program, FLL makes small changes each year based on lessons learned. Although many of the rules have been reworded or added to, they seem to provide the same intent as last year's rules. Of course it is possible that the changes may have opened up new or different strategies. Veteran and rookie teams should therefore read the rules very carefully. Here are the significant changes that I am aware of:
  1. Rule 5: Robot MUST leave base completely.
  2. Rule 7: Definition of robot has changed in a subtle way.
  3. Rule 8: A principle addition to this year's rules relates to the new NXT Mindstorms kit. For those using the NXT, please read the allowable parts section carefully.
  4. Rule 8: RCX bots may now have 3 rotation sensors and either a 3rd touch or a 3rd light sensor.
  5. Rule 10: Bluetooth must be turned off even in the pits.
  6. Rule 12: Definition of On/Onto now has a clause to allow the ref to make the call.
  7. Rule 13: Strategic objects must be completely outside the base when used.
  8. Rule 14: Scoring objects may be shifted as long as they do not change the score.
  9. Rules 15, 16, and 17: New definitions of various class of objects.
  10. Rule 22: Subtle wording change.
  11. Rule 25: New explicit rule.
  12. Rule 28: New rule.
  13. Rule 30: Minor wording changes.
  14. Rule 35: New rule.
